Enjoy the full fruit of the Te Ara Tahuna Walkway with a side-serving of the Race Track and Maygrove Lake thrown in for good measure. This is the 10k Classic at the Hibiscus Half Marathon.
If the thought of getting up for a 7:30am start in the half marathon seems a little harsh for your Sunday morning then why not give the 10k classic a go. Half the distance and twice the fun (some would say) the 10k kicks off at the far more humane time of 8:30am.
Series points are on the line in both the Classic and Classic Walk categories of the Auckland Half Marathon Series. Round Two of the AHMS provides the oppertunity to build on your achievements from the series opener.
The Course
The 10k Classic course features one near full lap of the Te Ara Tahuna walkway, with two side trips for interest. The race starts on the wide concrete footpaths of Metro Park before crossing the pedestrian bridge to join the walkway proper. At 3.5km, the route crosses from Red Beach to Orewa via the main Hibiscus Coast Highway Bridge. The first aid station is just on the other side. Near the 5k mark, a detour takes you into Settlers Grove, a race track shaped suburban street, closed to traffic for the event. Soon after, a detour into the suburbs includes a lap of beautiful Maygrove Lake. From there, it's back onto the walkway, across Kelly's Bridge and the only hill worthy of the name to get up to the corner of Arran Point Parade. It's all downhill and flat from there to the finish line, back in Metro Park. Job done!

Safety |
|
|---|---|
| On Course | You must always remain fully aware of your surroundings and look out for uneven surfaces, obstacles or vehicles. Even where the road is closed, we cannot guarantee it will be traffic-free. Only proceed where you are satisfied it is safe to do so. |
| Medics | Medical services will be provided by an appropriately licensed medical provider who will be available on-site and available to attend emergencies on course. In the case of an emergency, marshals or race crew *may* contact the on-site medical team in the first instance as they may be able to respond sooner than 111. Important! If in any doubt, where there is a medical emergency, ask someone to call 111. |
| Marshals | Please obey the marshals where they are acting for your safety. Marshals can make emergency calls on your behalf or contact event medical staff. Important! Event marshals are provided by third-party organisations. They are volunteers and should be treated with respect, however they do not speak on behalf of the event organiser. Whilst provided with appropriate and accurate information, we cannot guarantee they will always communicate this. Participants have PRIMARY responsibility for their own safety. |
